A beta document

Lope On is in beta and this is a plain-language draft written by the people building it, not reviewed by a lawyer. It has not been checked against the law of any particular state or country. It will be replaced with a proper document before launch.

1. What Lope On is

Lope On is a place to list horses, keep records about them, and find services connected with horses. We provide the software. We are not a party to any sale, lease, breeding arrangement, boarding agreement or haulage contract made through it.

2. Your account

You must be 18 or older to create an account. You are responsible for what happens under your login, so use a password you do not use elsewhere and tell us if you think somebody else has it. Give us a real email address — some of what we need to tell you can only go there.

One person, one account. Do not create an account for somebody else, and do not use somebody else’s.

3. What you post

You keep ownership of everything you upload. By posting it you allow us to:

  • store it and show it to whoever your privacy settings allow;
  • display it in search results and on horse and listing pages;
  • share it as part of an ownership transfer you agree to, so the record follows the horse.

We do not sell your content, and we do not post it to social media unless you separately and specifically opt in — see section 7.

You promise that what you post is yours to post, and that:

  • you own the horse or are authorised by the owner to list it;
  • the photographs are yours or you have permission to use them;
  • the horse’s description, health information and history are accurate to the best of your knowledge.

4. What you may not do

  • List a horse you do not own or have no right to sell.
  • Misrepresent a horse’s age, breeding, health, soundness or history.
  • Use somebody else’s photographs or copy another advert.
  • Harass, threaten or abuse anybody.
  • Scrape, bulk-download or resell data from the site.
  • Attempt to break, probe or overload the service.
  • Use Lope On for anything unlawful, including advertising a horse for slaughter where that is prohibited.
  • Create a listing purely to advertise something else.

5. Horse records and ownership history

Records you add to a horse belong to that horse’s record. When ownership transfers through Lope On, the new owner receives the history and the documents included in that transfer.

Ownership history entries are permanent. If you sold a horse in 2024, that stays in the record. You can close your account, and your personal profile goes, but the fact that the horse had an owner during those dates remains. A record that can be quietly erased by whoever holds the horse today would not be worth keeping.

6. Verification and badges

Any verification badge on Lope On states exactly what was checked and what it does not mean. A badge is not a warranty, an endorsement, or a guarantee about a horse, a person or a business. Read trust and safety before relying on one.

Sample data in a demonstration environment is labelled “Demo verification” and means nothing at all.

7. Promotion on our social accounts

We may share listings on Lope On’s own social media accounts. This only happens if you tick the consent box on your listing. It is off by default, nothing is posted automatically, and a person at Lope On reviews and writes every post.

You can withdraw consent at any time. Anything not yet posted is removed from the queue. We cannot always delete something already published, but we will try if you ask.

We only ever use content that is already public on your listing.

8. Transactions between users

Sales, leases, haulage and services arranged through Lope On are between the people involved. We do not handle payments, hold funds, run escrow, or arbitrate disputes. We do not inspect horses and we do not guarantee that anybody is who they say they are.

See the horse. Get a vetting. Get a bill of sale. Read trust and safety.

9. Fees

Lope On is free during the beta. Payment processing is switched off entirely, so nothing on the site can charge you. If we introduce fees we will tell you before they apply to you.

10. Moderation

We can remove content or limit an account that breaks these terms. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you what happened and why. Serious cases — fraud, threats, animal cruelty — may be removed immediately and reported to the relevant authorities.

Anyone can report something, with or without an account.

11. This is a beta

The service is provided as it is. During the beta it may be unavailable, features may change, and mistakes are possible. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose — particularly registration papers and Coggins certificates.

12. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Lope On is not liable for losses arising from a transaction between users, from a horse being other than described, from actions of a hauler or business found through the directory, or from unavailability of the service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

13. Ending it

You can close your account whenever you like, from settings. We can suspend an account that breaks these terms. Sections 5, 8, 12 and 13 continue to apply afterwards.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you rather than quietly changing the date at the top. Continuing to use Lope On after a change means you accept it.

15. Contact
